From working on our first prototype build to developing our next new electric boat designs, it’s been a fast-paced year full of exciting developments for Epoch Boats!
Here’s a recap of some of our accomplishments in 2022, and what to expect next year from Epoch Boats.
Building a Better Electric Boat
From Idea…
Epoch Boats began with the mission of designing purpose–built electric boats that are eco-friendly, efficient and affordable.
Founded by a team of long time boaters & marine industry professionals, we were passionate about the electrification & decarbonization of recreational boating.
We got to work in Q4 2021 running calculations, inventing new technologies, building scale models, filing patents, and prototyping on pre-existing boats.
…to prototype build…
We began building our first in-house prototype boat during the cold Pennsylvania winter months and we were ready to splash by early spring.
We conducted rigorous performance testing of our hull design & hydrofoil system with electric motors throughout the summer and fall, proving our hull concept of increasing both the speed and range of electric motors through the use of hydrofoils and our hydrodynamic hull design.

In March 2022 we opened up our customer waitlist and have seen enormous interest across the U.S. and internationally from potential customers ready to preorder our boats.
We conducted dozens of customer interviews to get feedback on features & desired options as we continue to fine-tune our design for production availability.

All The Buzz in the News
We made a splash with the public launch of Epoch Boats with press features in leading U.S. and international publications for the marine trade industry and consumer recreational boating.
Epoch was also a featured guest on a number of podcasts focused on climate tech, startups and the boating industry.

In addition to our monthly newsletter updates, we ramped up our social media activity with frequent updates to keep everyone up to date on our progress. In fact, many of our videos get thousands of views, with this most recent clip going viral and getting nearly 600,000 views (so far)!

Events & Showcases to Accelerate Our Plans
Throughout 2022, we were invited to participate in business accelerators, showcases and pitch events to share Epoch’s story & further develop our business plan.
Most notable were: University of Pennsylvania’s Pennovation Works Accelerator Program, Pennsylvania Outdoor Founders Roundtable, 2022 Philly Maker Faire, Philly Maker’s Meetup, Understory’s Startups Driving Sustainability, CEBN’s National Clean Energy Showcase, ForClimateTech’s Manufacturing Bootcamp, and the 2022 PACT Capital Conference.
Finally, Epoch was honored to be a finalist in the prestigious international award for electric boats – The Gussies 2022 Electric Boat Awards (presented by Plugboats.com) in the Concept / Development Electric Boats: Up To 8m / 26ft category.
2023 Preview of What’s Next
We’re getting ready to unwrap something new!
We’re developing TWO new hull designs based on everything we’ve learned this year through both customer interviews and on-water testing. And despite the cold winter months ahead, we’ll continue splashing prototypes, developing our technology and finalizing boat specifications.
